First of all, those three questions are excellent reasons why you should take a personal vacation day. If you are one of the lucky percentages of people who have unlimited vacation days, chances are you are traveling less than people who have 10 days off. And if you are a vacation day hoarder, I’m sorry to tell you, but if you’re saving up for that month-long vacation in Europe, chance are you won’t be able to take that trip for a while anyway. All I'm saying is you don’t need to feel like you’ve “earned a break.” You’ve earned the break if you earned the vacation day.
If you are racking up vacation days and don’t know what to do because they will expire, here are some suggestions to have modified staycations while we are practicing stay at home orders.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you do, but it is important to take the days you have been given. Just because you are working from home doesn’t mean you can’t vacation from home.
]]>The first thing I learned was Bastille Day is not actually called Bastille Day. Its full holiday name is la Fête Nationale or le 14 Juillet (14 July), Bastille Day is just what it is called in English.
The second thing I learned is that it commemorates a specific action taken in 1789. According to the British Library, the Bastille was actually a state prison on the east side of Paris that was attacked and overtaken by protestors.* “The prison had become a symbol of the monarchy's dictatorial rule, and the event became one of the defining moments in the Revolution that followed.” The British Library described the people as an “angry and aggressive mob” which of course gave me major “Kill the beast” villager vibes.
Unfortunately, Americans can’t travel to France this year due to the COVID 19 travel ban. However, we CAN feel like we are there with these 9 France inspired Travel Instagram accounts.
9 French Travel Accounts
1. Parisian Mommy - Karla is an original Pocket Palette supporter so we had to recognize her at the top of this list. Karla talks about the joys of being a Latina mommy in Paris, paired with beautiful pictures of her gorgeous family. She also is the host of @latinasinparis.2. Leparisnoir - A licensed tour group that gives walking tours of Paris with a focus on its Black history. They have two specialty tours: On the Left bank, the focus is on "Tracing the history of great intellectual, artistic, and political figures from Africa, the Caribbean, or the United States. We talk in particular about Negritude, Jazz, and the rise of the black question." The second tour takes place on the Right Bank...and "focuses on French multiculturalism. Between the land of immigrants and popular bastion, it is an active development of Parisian diversity."
3. Basically_french - Jen and Kris are two ex-pats in France who launched a blog about their love of their new French life. It’s mostly pretty photos but they also include really cute drawings highlighting things like the differences in the U.S. and France. Like how people in the USA call abs (six-pack) and in France (tablettes de chocolat).
4. Frenchcheeseboard - Ok, this is actually an NYC based business, but their account shares the finer aspects of fromage and how to love it properly. They offer in-person events, but their videos are just as helpful.
5. ParisObviously - Is a huge community sourced account with supreme wanderlust photos from Parisians and travelers alike. This is a great catchall to learn about other photographers in Paris. Also, as a bonus, @freeaparis the photographer behind the account ParisObviously. Posts insta stories where you can get great video clips.
6. FrenchWordsJournal - Julien and Claire are the founders of French Words, a french language insta account. On this account though, they feature pretty pictures of Paris and Marseille with a light and airy filter, with some appearances of their sweet almost 2-year-old, Lily-Jance.
If you’re looking for other Instagram accounts to help you speak French, check out this post here:
7. Loves_united_france_ - Follow for highly edited but beautiful photos. Another community sourced page, with travel inspo of all over France, not just Paris.
8. Freetimesomewhere - A smaller account sharing buildings and cityscapes photos around “Paris and Elsewhere.” We’re highlighting this page specifically because these photos are edited to look like cartoon paintings.
9. Fredvoyage14 - A seriously underappreciated account. Frederic is a travel photographer based in Caen Normandie. His photos give a rustic vibe and usually have a natural element.
I hope these French Travel Inspo Accounts are helping any French travel thirst you may have. Maybe scroll through these photos with a bottle of Champagne and a croissant while listening to this Jacques Brel playlist. If we all do our part, we’ll be able to visit France again soon to take beautiful Pocket Palette in Paris photos like this one by @wanderonwards:

1. Adidas – I think these shoes are the most popular white sneakers I have seen on my Instagram feed. And for good reason. They are super comfortable, easy to spot clean, and will stand the test of time long after these Insta-trends fade. | $50.00-$164.09
2. Vans – As a girl who grew up with skater punk/pop, I will always have a soft spot for Vans. These slip-ons are easy to pack as they lay mostly flat too. | Prices vary
3. Keds – Keds are the most intergenerational shoes out there. Everyone from grandmas, moms, teens, and kids alike have worn these sneakers. You can even customize your comfort by using inserts. | $39.88 - $68.23
4. If you're a fan of the shoes that look like socks, definitely check these out. They have amazing reviews on Amazon and are the most affordable on this list. | $32.99
5. If you prioritize comfort over everything, then these are the way to go. Nurses and retail workers rave about these shoes, so you’re guaranteed to be able to stand walking around a few tourists spots with them. | $46.18 - $148.57
Now that you’ve selected your white sneakers for travel, remember to pack this tide pen to make sure you can keep scuff marks at bay. If you need something stronger, traveling with white nail polish will the get the job done too.
Lastly, to complete your Insta-Influencer look, keep a Pocket Palette handy so you can do your makeup on the go. Pocket Palette is a full face, single-use, travel makeup kit. It comes with a single serving of mascara, lip/cheek color and bb cream for quick color on the go.

3. Sewing kit – When I was a teaching assistant for an MBA class abroad, I had to repair a pair of pants for a student who went a little too hard at karaoke. It was the night before the presentation, they were his only dress pants and all the stores were closed. I repaired them for him with the sewing kit I had in my go bag. He was immensely grateful, and now I have this great story to tell. Pick up a sewing kit the next time you’re at a hotel. Ask the front desk for one. If you need one asap, Amazon has this one in a cute package. | $5.12
4. Sharpie – Having a marker on hand is always a good idea. Aside from being able to write with it, you can also use it to patch small chips in paint. I once without shame used a sharpie to cover the white scuff marks on my heels, no one knew the difference! | $6.18
5. Hydrocortisone – Aside from being able to calm your skin from a rash, it also doubles as a moisturizer in a pinch. I typically dab hydrocortisone onto my eyelids and under-eye before a flight because that area tends to get extremely dry for me. | $7.28
6. Pantyliner – Aside from the obvious, a panty liner doubles as an emergency lint remover! Just use the sticky side to dab off fuzzies from your suit. | $2.78
7. Pocket Palette This is the ultimate product to have in your travel bag. Pocket Palette is a full face, single-use, travel makeup kit. It comes with a single serving of mascara, lip/cheek color and bb cream for quick color on the go. | $11.99 - $34.99

How do you spend your lunch break at work? I know for me it’s my chance to catch up on Instagram posts I missed or mindlessly surf the web. Sometimes I find myself online shopping for a dress or lipstick I don’t need, and others, I find myself browsing my News app staying up to date on anything from current events to where the new restaurants in Boston are...because who doesn't plan their next meal while they are eating?
Huge plug for the Apple News app for letting me browse these different topics from various publications in one spot because, without it, I wouldn’t have gotten this internship. Let me explain.
On this one particular Thursday, I was scrolling through my curated feed and came across a Buzzfeed article. I saw the headline 52 Incredibly Useful Products That Help You Get Through Life. If you know me personally, you know I tend to laughably struggle with the simple things in life so, this seemed like a fitting read. I am also a sucker for anything to make my life easier or more efficient (@ products who can do that: please take all of my money).
After scrolling through bed sheet suspenders, no-tie elastic shoelaces, and a tool to help you clasp a bracelet on by yourself, I came across lucky number 37. I don’t know if it was the cute packaging or the clever name but, The Pocket Palette instantly caught my eye. After reading the product description, I knew this was something I needed in my life.
Not being a morning person, I am often running late for work, class, or appointments, and when something has to be sacrificed, that is often my beauty routine. As someone who hates to leave the house without makeup on, my two options are to have deal with being bare-faced all day or lug my hefty makeup bag with me. I usually choose the latter and hope I can find five minutes to sneak to the bathroom to put some makeup on, where I inevitability realize I forgot the foundation brush I needed at home in my hurry. Enter the savior to my struggles: The Pocket Palette.
The Pocket Palette has all the products I need to do a quick, full face of makeup (BB cream, mascara, and lipstick) and feel confident, but it is also light, small, portable, and can be tossed when I am finished with it.
I clicked on the link to go to the website to purchase, giddy with excitement. As I started to read through the website, the marketing major in me engaged and the lightbulb in my brain turned on. I was flooded with ideas of how Pocket Palette could be advertised, potential social media posts, and ideas for partnerships (I know I geek out for marketing...no shame). The excitement to purchase the product quickly turned to an eagerness to get involved. I had no idea where the team was based or if they would be willing to hire an intern- but hey, you got to shoot your shot, right?
My current internship was ending in June and I had not yet figured out how I was going to spend the summer before my senior year of college. This seemed like the perfect opportunity. I found the CEO’s name on the website and looked her up on Linkedin. I sent her the below message with an invite to connect and crossed my fingers that I would get a reply.
I spent much of the day checking and refreshing Linkedin until later that night I saw she replied! She was so excited. I reached out and asked to set up a call to discuss. We scheduled a call for the following Monday afternoon, and after a 15-minute chat, I had an internship!
Three weeks later, I was on-boarded, and I haven’t looked back since. I couldn’t be more excited to see what the rest of the summer holds for me.
Before I sign off, I want to share two very important lessons this experience reinforced for me:
I hope this inspired some of you to proactively seek out career opportunities, and when you do become that gal on the go, I hope there is a Pocket Palette in your purse!

You know those magazines you pass while in the grocery store? The ones you see as you’re about to pay. Sometimes you will pick them up and skim through all the photos and words describing the best of something or they have top 10 lists. Guess what!? I am happy to announce that #PocketPalette is featured in SHAPE Magazine! So next time your roaming around your local grocery store be sure to keep an eye out for this months issue of SHAPE magazine with Leighton Meester on the cover. Pocket Palette is featured as one of the top 10 items for Next Level Living. Making it to number three on the list, Pocket Palette is described as a way to “do a tiny touch-up” just open, primp, toss.
This is really inspiring you guys! Shape Magazine has dedicated themselves to help women discover and participate in a well-lived life. This aligns with Pocket Palette’s purpose excellently as we aim to help women on-the-go focus on their priorities without the literal weight of their bags bringing them down.
We were featured along with other great items, and really think you should get a copy so you can get to your next level of living (obviously not biased). If you do, send us a pic of you with the magazine, we would love to see it!
Check out our Instagram for more photos and updates, and of course, we did a photo shoot at the wing. 💁🏽
I love the weeks surrounding New Year's Day. People are optimistic, hopeful, and determined to set big goals for the next turn around the sun. A popular topic within the Pocket Palette community is of course, travel. So while searching the best #travelgoals on Insta, we thought about how important it is to have a passport.
Don’t have one? That’s okay, January is the best time to get one. Why? Because that means you'll have the rest of the year to travel, duh. We made a little guide to make sure you have everything you need to get yours.
Be warned, applying for a passport isn't difficult, but you will be dealing with the Post Office and the State Department which means you should practice being patient, and humble, and zen, and....
NOTE: Make sure you bring both the original and photocopies of your proof of identity/ U.S. Citizenship to the Post Office when you submit your application.
Wait, how much will this cost me again?Calculate your fees here. You will have to pay Post Office fees when you go in person, and State Department fees are mailed with your application.
That's it! Not too bad, right? Honestly, the hardest part is remembering to bring everything with you to the Post Office.
When you do need to renew your passport you can do it by mail, just make sure to do it nine months before the expiration date. You have to because of reasons. For one, to avoid costly expedited costs, second, some countries require passports to remain valid for up to 6 months after travel, and lastly, it can take up to three months to process a passport renewal application. So best to be on the safe side and get it done early.
If you have any other questions about how to apply for a U.S. Passport, please refer to the State Department website.

Road trips are special. You are forced to talk to the person next to you and it's in those moments that you share those 8th-grade embarrassing stories you swore you'd never tell anyone. And of course, the rules and roles!
1) The driver focuses on the road, driving like a boss.
2) The passenger is co-pilot who controls the music and GPS.
3) The back seat is for the official snack distributor who also points out all the bathroom stops and naps occasionally (or a lot).
Excited to take a road trip of your own yet? We have compiled a list of the ten best road trip destinations in the U.S. for you to go with your friends or family.
Yellowstone is the world’s first national park and indeed is a wonder. It's a beautiful national park where you can explore mountains, lakes, wildlife, and geysers. Depending on where you are driving from, there will be plenty of mini stops to take in the scenery. We recommend that you visit Yellowstone’s National Park site, as they have included the best scenic routes from varies starting points in the U.S. including California, Chicago, Colorado, Utah, and Texas.
People from all over the world are attracted to The Grand Canyon because of how immense it is. It is 277 river miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and a mile deep. That's a lot of land mass to see. With all this space, The Grand Canyon has a way of making a person feel small, but in a good way. Want to know the best route to take? The Grand Canyon National Park Service has done a great job at charting the best directions for optimal travel. We recommend that you review it if you are considering a visit.
Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles long connecting Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. Dubbed "America's Favorite Drive" is an excellent road trip choice for a long weekend. There will be plenty of natural beauty to appreciate as it takes you through some of the oldest mountains in the world, Whitewater Falls, and Linville Gorge.
The Badlands in South Dakota contain some of the world’s most abundant fossil beds, providing evidence of ancient mammals such as the saber-toothed cat. Its unique landscape with twisted canyons, striped rock walls, native grasslands, and spires gives you a real Jurassic Park feeling.
This road trip is 600-miles long and will take you through Navajo Nation and Zuni land. Where you can make a stop at Chaco Culture National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Ever found yourself saying “It was aliens.” Then we recommend that you go full Fox Mulder and drive through this 487-mile road trip that takes you through Lincoln County’s Extraterrestrial Highway just north of Area 51. You know, the off-limits military base that probably contains UFOs and other secrets. If that doesn't interest you, you could also stop to take a hike through the Valley of Fire State Park (sounds pleasant).
Is there anything more vintagey classic than driving down route 66? One of the more famous road trip destinations, its strip of road reaches from California all the way to Illinois. If you could only do one road trip on this list, it should be Route 66, preferably in a red convertible Ford Mustang.
Enjoy the ocean view? This road trip will fill you with all blue hue joy you could dream of. This specific trip runs in the middle of California along Route 1 or the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway). You will see Big Sur, seaside cliffs and as a bonus, you'll drive through Paso Robles and Carmel, aka wine country. Extend your trip by doing a few wine tastings and staying the night in a super cute seaside motel. And if you're into seeing how the other side lives, stop by Hearst Castle in San Simeon.
If you only took this trip because it has a cool name, you would be in good company. This stretch of road on Highway 550 will take you through old gold-mining towns climbing more than two miles above sea level. It is a breathtaking drive and is rich in history.
Covering a distance of 95 miles, this drive in Wyoming is all open sky and has earned the name, “Great Skyroad.” This trip will guarantee you plenty of starts to wish upon at night. Bonus! There are public hot springs which we recommend sliding into after a long day of sitting on your butt.
Ready to go for a drive? Make sure to pack your Pocket Palette!
What we found most exciting is the fact that Pocket Palette took up more than a quarter of the page! We think it photographs well, don't you?
We were also excited to be featured the same month that this talented Latina graces the cover. Hi Natalie Morales!
We were so excited about this feature that we had a full photoshoot at The Wing Georgetown. So many pics!
Ultimately, we decided to grid one photo for our Instagram - and we think it's super cute! Go check it out here.
]]>I was struck by the beauty of the mural and by the artist's intentions: "I am honored to create the mural 'One World, Our Children' highlighting the importance of upholding the ideal that all people are born equal and deserve equal rights and dignity."
Naturally, being a beauty entrepreneur, I thought about which Pocket Palette would match each of the beautiful faces. Since B.B. cream is more blend-able and has lighter coverage than foundation, I was happy to find that we had a Pocket Palette shade for each. Of course, these are not humans, but it was a fun way to showcase that Pocket Palette has inclusivity in our heart, even if we have small start with just 4 shades.
So, with Chinon Maria's permission, we'll be sharing 9 photos of #muraltounite and Pocket Palette over the next few days. Check them all out on our Instagram!

Let’s end the basic mother's day gifts here. We can do better than getting mom heart-shaped jewelry or a mug because more than likely the kitchen shelves are overfilled with them. Unless you know they would want those things, stay away from these basic mother's day gifts.

Instead, you can get an in-home massage from an app like Soothe. Soothe will come straight to her door. Available in 55+ cities, starting at $109 for one hour.

Today marks the first day of Spring, which also means the start of spring cleaning. Every year when spring cleaning rolls around, we think about cleaning our closets, kitchens, bedrooms, but don’t forget about your beauty products. I love organizing my makeup, but if you’re like me, you probably haven’t washed a makeup brush in 5 years. Here are five steps to organize and clean up your makeup collection.
We are all guilty of going into a makeup store in search of new lipstick and leaving with eyeliner, an eyeshadow palette, and two more lipsticks. It happens to the best of us, but take this time to declutter your makeup collection. Begin by laying out all your makeup on the table, then categorize the items so you can see which category you have an abundance of makeup products. Now is not the time to lie to yourself and use the “someday” excuse. A good rule to follow is, if you haven’t use the product in the last eight months you’re probably not going to use it in the future.
Now that you have all your makeup products out of your drawers and containers, it’s time to clean your storage space. You can take some Clorox wipes and wipe down the outside and the inside. Let your drawers or containers dry before putting items back in.
Dividing your cosmetics into different categories helps with organization and convenience when using your makeup. Spring cleaning is also an ideal time to bring warmer colors to the front and set aside the winter hues. An excellent system for organizing cosmetics is using acrylic holders and stackable drawers.
You should clean your makeup brushes weekly or at least bi-weekly, but if you haven’t done so, spring cleaning is the best time to wash those brushes and get in the habit of doing this weekly. Not only will your skin thank you for using clean brushes, but your makeup will apply a lot better.
Steps to cleaning your makeup brushes
Sometimes we drop our makeup but repairing broken compact or eyeshadow palette is easy. Gather all the broken pieces, then let it soak in isopropyl alcohol until it is completely dry and you are all set!
Very important, take this time to replace any expired makeup. Or any mascara or eyeliner that you know is fading and drying out but have been too lazy to go out and replace it.
Guidelines to follow when replacing products.
The motto for spring cleaning is out with the old and in with new!
]]>Every day is a day to celebrate the women in our lives, but we’d like to take today as an opportunity to announce our Woman Crush Wednesday series. Every week on Wednesday, we’ll profile women who deserve a little extra love.
We know a lot of amazing women, and we think you do too. If you know an amazing woman, send us their information and we'd love to feature them on our social media! We're looking to highlight authors, grad students, entrepreneurs, activists, moms, and all around badasses!
And since today is the ULTIMATE day to recognize women, we’ll launch our series (on a Thursday) with someone very close to me, my mom.
Linda Correa is a two-time cancer survivor and published author. Her book, Abrazando Al Gigante Que Hay En Ti, was recently translated and launched this year as Embracing the Giant Within. Her book is a narrative of love, love in the form of support by others and love in the form of inner strength.
I am proud of her for this and so many reasons, but most of all, because taught me strength, courage, love, and faith simply by being herself. Thank you, mom, and congratulations!
It's 2018, and we wanted to share one key lesson we learned about starting a company: Network! Yes, sometimes networking sucks and it's hard to talk about yourself to strangers, but is an important part of any starting something good.
So we decided to create an epic list of conferences to help you get started. We have separated the list into two categories: beauty and business, and all support women in business.
Going to a conference is a great way to get connected whether you are looking for potential partners or some inspiration for your next move. So check out our list, pack your bag, grab a Pocket Palette, and you’re good to go!

Inclusive leadership requires the commitment of ALL genders, cultures and perspectives. ALL people must consider themselves accountable to do ALL they can to advance women into leadership roles. Now more than ever, it’s important to have uncomfortable conversations about intersectionality, bias, inclusion, race, culture and gender in order to build trust, strengthen partnerships and unite in our declaration to be ALL IN for women.
Trust Matters is the rallying cry of this action-oriented, half-day event that will motivate attendees in the pursuit of higher cross-cultural dialogue and understanding. The program will converge around tools and strategies to effectively rebuild trust, while demonstrating how companies can support and increase employee engagement. We will address what it takes to recruit, retain and promote women in order to create and sustain a more collaborative and inclusive workplace. This is truly when TRUST MATTERS.
Challenge your thinking with inspiring stories, be welcomed into the worlds of others, and engage in open and honest dialogues about what it truly means to be trusting and inclusive.

]]>If you ask an entrepreneur what they want for Christmas, you’ll likely get an answer like: “sleep, time, money, a successful fundraising round, my sanity back.” If you’re a good intentioned gifter, you can politely roll your eyes and check out this list instead. Or if you are the described entrepreneur, send this to your well intended gifter. Either way, here is a sampling of thoughtful gift ideas for an entrepreneur (or grad student, or college student, or basically anyone who is doing too many things at once). We broke it down by issue: Time, Self Care, Money, Work, Fun and included a special, What NOT to buy section.
While you can’t give a person a time turner (yes you can) , you can gift them a few hours with a personal assistant to help with some items. My personal favorites are:
1- Fiverr: $5 goes a long way here if you don't have that much to spare.
Fiverr is a community of freelancers that will do work for as little as $5. I’ve used it for research purposes (‘Find the top 20 beauty conferences in the U.S”), and for data organization. (Here’s a list of websites I found, find their beauty editor and find their contact information and put it into an excel sheet. I did find that there were a lot of international helpers here, so make sure your instructions are clear and easy to follow. Prices start at $5
2. Fancy Hands. Tasks are set up in 20 minute chunks of time and honestly you’d be surprised how much can get done in 20 mins.
I was gifted 45 tasks as an MBA graduation present and I loved it so much I subscribed when my free tasks were up. I’ve used Fancy Hands for everything ranging from looking up and booking wedding dress appointments (I’m a Matron of Honor!) to looking up social media ranking for influencers we wanted to use. Note: if you do this for yourself, you get 50% off for your first month using my link. Starts at $30 a month
3. Fitness Genes: A workout plan based on science
Exercise is obviously important, but you may not want to give a gift that may make someone feel like they need to lose weight. That’s why I’m recommending Fitness Genes, which I used earlier this summer. Essentially, they assess your DNA for genes that affect your fitness, and then give you a workout and meal plan based on your results. For example, I learned that my best workout time is from 4-8pm, which is when my body is the strongest and that I could be good at endurance sports. Fitness Genes is especially great for entrepreneurs because we know the importance of making decisions based on data, and this DNA test gives you just that.
DNA Analysis and 4 week starter plan $219, other plans available
Bonus: if you want to dip your toe into the Fitness Genes community, check out the founder’s Facebook page, where he posts free 5-minute HIIT workouts daily.
4. A blow out because great hair = great feeling
I’m often stuck in NYC with a few hours to kill before a meeting. Not wanting to smell like a Starbucks and too tired to sight-see, I usually end up finding a salon for a manicure or a blow out. I recommend the Dry Bar which can be found in most cities. Blowouts start at $45
5. An in-home massage from an app like Soothe
Ah a massage, how luxurious. Except for the part where you have to find a spa near you, spend time booking, and then actually commute to it. Soothe will come straight to your door.
Available in 55+ cities, starting at $109 for one hour
6. The Portable Purple No-Pressure Seat Cushion. Sitting on your butt all day is hard. This cushion has the capability of being portable to take on trains and airplanes, and is washable! $40
7. A Sun lamp because you know they don’t leave the house sometimes. It also has the added benefit of being adorable. $40
8. While it might be weird to hand someone cash as a gift (though please feel free!) a gift card to these places could also work.
9. A waterproof notepad to capture all the amazing ideas that happen in the shower. A pack of 3 for $24.
10. A flexible tripod for Instagram shots and Youtube videos.
I’ve actually bought this tripod twice now, once because my brother liked it so much he stole it for his soccer videos, and the second time so i could record my Kickstarter video. Also comes with a remote. $25 on Amazon.
11. Keychain charging cable. $9 for 1 and $16 for 2.
Pairs perfectly with...
12. A portable charger with over NINE THOUSAND 5 star reviews. $40
13. Packing cubes. It seems counterintuitive to put more bags inside of your luggage, BUT, there are over 1,200 5 star reviews, so I’m in. $23
14. Digital news subscription
With all the breaking news happening, your entrepreneur probably ran out of free article views already. Gift them a digital subscription to one of these papers. Prices reflect the cheapest, digital, yearly subscription.
15. These earrings. How can you not? $12
16. This adorable embroidered hat. Because it’s ours and we love it. Plus, any entrepreneur could totally use this on travel days. $23
17. Pocket Palette - This compact travel makeup kit because it is the best for the woman on-the-go. 3 for $12
18. Phenomenal woman t-shirt. She’s a phenomenal woman. Gift her a shirt that says so.
Funds raised from this shirt will benefit various organizations that support women. Buy the shirt and learn more about each organization. $35
19. Statement Socks
I wear these to interviews or big meetings where I have to wear a suit. I ALWAYS get compliments on them, including from a prospective investor and a congressman and a recruiter. Any kind will do, but these are two of the ones I wear. Frida Socks $10 Skull Socks $10
Shopping for mom during the holidays is never easy, especially if you feel like they deserve the world and you have $4.00 in your pocket. Ask her what she wants for Christmas and she’ll probably answer, “a nap?” While you can’t wrap a nap (lol see what we did there?), we have compiled a list of gift ideas for mom that range in budgets from broke to treat-yo-self. We are sure this list will help you find something that she will love. We also included a special “What NOT to buy” section.
1. Maid - Probably the number 1 requested gift. You can use a national service like merrymaids.com or find a local option using Groupon. Prices vary depending on service.
2. Personal Assistant - Fancy Hands is a community of virtual assistants that do work in 20 minute chunks of time.
I was gifted 45 tasks as a graduation present and I loved it so much I subscribed when my free tasks were up. I’ve used Fancy Hands for everything ranging from looking up plumbers in my area to researching meeting room spaces. Note: if you do this for yourself, you get 50% off for your first month using my link. Starts at $30 a month http://fhands.com/taMcYwl
3. An in-home massage from an app like Soothe
Ah a massage, how luxurious. Except for the part where mom has to find a spa near her, spend time booking, and then actually commute to it. Soothe will come straight to her door. Available in 55+ cities, starting at $109 for one hour.
4. Manicure/Pedicure - Groupon would be a good option for this as well, but honestly, if you slip her a few $20s, I’m sure she’ll love it. Use this card if you do. Prices vary depending on service.
5. A blow-out because someone else washing your hair is the actual best.
Seriously that moment when you tilt your head back and a stylist turns on the warm water me goosebumps. Mom deserves that feeling. I recommend the Dry Bar which can be found in many cities. Blowouts start at $45.
6. Free ride with either Uber or Lyft - So she can feel like a VIP heading home after the free champagne at Drybar. Uber gift cards start $25 and Lyft starts at $20.
7. Dry Shampoo, any woman’s secret super power. Extend the length of your wash by a few days with Batiste Dry Shampoo. $15.19 for a pack of 3 on Amazon.
8. This Hat - Because sometimes you’ve overdone the dry shampoo but just need more time. It’s our Pocket Palette Hat and we love it. Buy it now for $23.
9. For the mom at a desk job, sitting on your butt all day is hard. This No-Pressure Seat Cushion has the capability of being portable to take wherever you go and it's washable! $40 on Amazon.
10. Help protect that beautiful face of hers by gifting this highly ranked Natural Silk Hypoallergenic Pillowcase. It’s the small luxuries in life that count. Only $21!
11. Pocket Palette - This travel makeup palette is a great gift for the woman on-the-go aka busy moms who just need a few minutes for themselves. Pre-order a set of 3 for $12.
12. Your mom is a Phenomenal Woman - Let her know who she is while supporting other women by getting her this Phenomenal Woman T-Shirt for $35.
Funds raised from this shirt will benefit various organizations that support women. Emerge America, Essie Justice Group, Girls Who Code, Higher Heights, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, Planned Parenthood, and The United State of Women. Learn more about each organization and get your mom a Phenomenal Woman T-Shirt.
13. A cozy sweater because moms love being cozy. I bought this sweater over Thanksgiving break and I get all of the nice fuzzy feelings when I wear it. It might as well be a robe. Available at Target for $29.99.
14. You always need to be able to reach mom, make sure her phone and electronics are always at 100% with this Portable Charger. $39.99 on Amazon.
Haven’t used this one, but there are over NINE thousand 5 star reviews on Amazon, with some pretty detailed descriptions of the product. I put this one in my shopping cart.
15. Leggings are always in season, and make the perfect pair of pants without actually having to put real pants on.
This 6-pack of seamless fleece lined leggings comes in different colors so she can mix and match with her wardrobe. With over 2,800 positive reviews we think this is a great buy and for only $25.95 on Amazon!
16. Slippers are a classic gift and this pair of Minnetonka Women's Hardsole Pile-Lined Slipper’s can be worn inside or outdoors.
They range in price from $31.64 - $50.90 depending on size and color.
17. Socks! Enough with the cute pair of socks that disappear into the dryer and never come out. Buy mom two sets of these socks (for a total of 36 pairs!) and she’ll never have to worry about matching socks again. One pack is $13.99 on Amazon.
18. On the off chance that she gets to take a nap, give her some VitaFusion Melatonin gummies to help her quickly turn off the noise in her head and savor as many minutes in the nap as possible. Only $10.44 for some blissful sleep.
19. If your mom has the luxury of having a separate bathroom, help ease her life a bit with The Squatty Potty. This is a life changer. Only $24.99!
20. This 4 pack of exfoliating gloves - My mom saw these in my shower and actually asked me to buy these for her. $9.99 for the pack. (And bonus, she loved this sunblock too.)
21. If you want a low cost but high emotional impact gift, check out this fill in the blank book, What I Love About Mom. (I’m looking at you, college students). It's available on amazon for $13.99, though you may find it cheaper in your college bookstore.

We are in the early stages of creating the business and there is so much to do, but first we want to take a moment to say thank you to YOU, reader, because you have kept us going.
If you are interested in attending please follow this event on Facebook for more details.
We chose to launch a crowdfunding campaign because along our journey, we have developed a supporting network of friends (you), who are eager to see us succeed. Similarly, the Kickstarter community fosters a group of creators who exist to support each other (us). Kickstarter stands above the other crowdfunding platforms for its transparency, design standards, and overall fun energy. We have spent countless nights and early mornings preparing for this all-or-nothing campaign and we. are. ready. And finally...because money. 💸💸💸
Although it’s a cosmetics product, Pocket Palette is about so much more than just makeup. It's about those times when you wake up early to go to the gym before starting your day. It’s about making time to go to women’s networking groups after work. It’s about packing a carry-on bag for those last minute trips. And, it’s about carrying snacks and toys for your kids with no space for your own things.
We know you have lots of competing priorities, so we want to help make one of these easier. The Pocket Palette will ease the pain of carrying a full makeup bag.
Of course, there are days when makeup does become the priority. And that’s great! Go on with your contouring self! The Pocket Palette is not here to challenge that. It’s here for your “I just need something quick” moments, the “oh shit, I forgot my makeup” moments. The Pocket Palette is the makeup hack you have been looking for that can fit easily into your purse, bag, pocket, and lifestyle.
The Pocket Palette, a single use, full face makeup kit with a single serving of three products: a multipurpose lip/cheek color, bb cream and mascara, packaged into a tear away pouch. It is cruelty free and manufactured in the U.S.A.
]]>The Pocket Palette team has been busy this summer! We created an LLC, filed lots of legal paperwork, ordered and received makeup, had our first interview, sent our first newsletter to 150 people, and are now publishing this first blog post! It has been a truly exciting time, all leading up to our Kickstarter, set for October 1st of this year.
In case you missed it, here is a link to the interview we had on While Commuting. While Commuting is a new podcast series sponsored by Apple Podcasts and hosted by Priyanka N. Deo. She explores and condenses various human interest stories that can be heard in 15 minutes or less.
Priyanka: What sparked the idea for The Pocket palette
Lynda: I was on a train from New York to New Haven. It was one of those 5am trains, so I didn’t want to have to wake up any earlier than I needed to...so I squeezed some makeup into a sandwich bag. And that was it.
Priyanka then asked about the challenges that arise when you decide to go into entrepreneurship, as many people start with great ideas, but don’t know where to go from there.
Lynda: “Anybody can have a great idea, but it’s about the amount of work that goes into validating your idea”
Listen to the podcast to hear the full interview (it’s only 5 minutes long). Stay tuned for more updates!
